FORK HANDLES KITCHEN a new food establishment in Petersfield has won the Slow Food Solent Company Of The Year 2014 award
Richard Gordon collected the award during the Petersfield Food Festival ceremony and told us "Slow Food is a great ethos, one that matches ours here at fork handles kitchen. it is based on eating food that is locally produced by means that translate to great tasting food. Providing both the consumer with a knowledge of its locality, food footprint, and knowing that the farming techniques and short travel distance is not only taking the produce from field to plate but is also not damaging the environment in doing so.
supporting local producers allowing a better trade for them and a better produce for the consumer".
Hannah Godfrey, Slow Food Solent Leader presented the award reminding the audience that "We can not be better placed in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to source our ingredients directly. What Fork Handles Kitchen has set out to do is to buy all of their ingredients within a 30 mile radius of the kitchen, is what we should all be aspiring to do in our own kitchens. Their meat are all sourced directly from the farms, their vegetables come from farms, independent growers, their garden all within 30 miles. They use the local market for bread, vegetables, eggs and meat that they can not source directly."
Congratulations to Fork Handles Kitchen! We look forward to hosting a Slow Food Event there with Richard & his team!
